Source: myjoyonline.com - The panel of eminent persons who directed the Electoral Commission’s public forum on the voters register is promising fair and comprehensive recommendations on the future of the register.
The two day forum on the register ended in Accra on Friday.

Although the National Democratic Congress has expressed joy at proceeding, the New Patriotic Party insists that its concerns have not been addressed.

The NPP’s former National Chairman during his presentation at the forum said his party believes that the current voters register is “incurably flawed” and called for the creation of a new one to ensure credible elections in 2016.

But the EC Chair, Charlotte Osei in a response to the NPP’s concerns about the register said “if you look at just the names, you may assume that there are multiple registrations but as we explained we used a biometric data matching and now we even use a biographic data matching”.

However, NPP Member of Parliament for Akuapim, O.B Amoah said the EC’s response is not coherent.

He told Joy News Joseph Opoku Gapko that “We cannot just say that EC has made its presentation so it is enough to say that we shouldn’t have a new register. She hasn’t even told us the way forward. She has just outlined the challenges we are facing and some of the responses they can give”.

Chairman of the Peace Council and member of the panel, Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Asante assured they will be open minded in their recommendations which may take some time to be ready.

“We have heard from the different positions and the concerns expressed, it will help us to make our recommendations. Definitely we will be calling on some of them for further clarification on some of the issues so that our recommendations to the EC will be very comprehensive.

He however told Opoku Gakpo that he cannot tell the time the report will be ready but was quick to add “we will do it with dispatch but we are not going to rush through”.
