Source: TV3network. com - Central Regional Police has denied assaulting a suspected criminal whose death provoked some angry youth in Cape Coast to attack the Police on Sunday.

The Police say the victim, Kwasi Sabado, who was among some 37 suspected criminals rounded up last week, fell sick while in cell and was consequently rushed to the Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
His death, however, caused some youth to attack the Bakano Police Station in Cape Coast, destroying properties belonging to some officers, and has led to the death of a little girl who was mistakenly shot, allegedly by the mob.

One person has so far been arrested and investigations currently ongoing.

Speaking at a special durbar Monday afternoon to call for calm in the metropolis, Regional Police Commander, DCOP Ransford Ninson, wondered why people are claiming the victim was beaten to death, describing it as false.

Meanwhile, government officials, traditional leaders and churches in Cape Coast have urged the people to remain calm and not do anything untoward to disrupt the peaceful which has been the hallmark of the metropolis.

At a gathering at the Cape Coast Town Hall Monday, to solve the recent eruption of gratuitous violence, Regional Minister Thomas Acquinas Tawiah pleaded with the youth to be calm as the does its work in ensuring peace and order in the region.

In attendance at the meeting were Metropolitan Chief Executive Priscilla Arhin, Cape Coast chief Osabarima Kwesi Atta II, and kweku Ricket Hagan.
